National X/C Championships

We do it for
fun - honest!!!!
The National X/C
Championships took place at Herrington Country Park, Sunderland, on
Saturday. The massive event is possibly one of the biggest cross
countries in Europe.
In the u13s
girls race Middlewich`s Megan Huxley finished in a brilliant 10th place and
Claire Perry in a very impressive 44th in a field of 268 of the countries
best. The race was won by E Goreka from Aldershot.
In the u15 girls
race Kathy Stringer finished in 34th, Hannah Paver 55th, Emily Furber 64th
and Nikki Meadows 140th out of 248 finishers. Vale Royals u15 girls finished
as 7th team, Aldershot being the team winners.
In the u17 race
Kate Howard finished in 99th out of 155 finishers.
The u20 ladies
race saw Stevie Stockton take a brilliant silver medal and her team take
bronze. Charlotte Roach finished an amazing 11th ahead of Internationals
like Mary Farrier (Gateshead ) and Lucy Mahyo ( Bingley). Also in the team
were Kate Spilsbury and Rachel Clews. The race was won by Jessica Spark from
Woodford Green and Essex ladies, and the team was won by Bristol and West.
In the u15 boys
race Andy Clews finished in brilliant 34th and Andy Perry 201st in a field
of 266 finishers. The race was won by Nathan Young from Somerset and the
team by Tonbridge (Kent).
The u17 boys
race saw Zach Cross finish in 83rd and Chris Perry in 94th out of 188
finishers in a race won by David Forrester from St Helens and the team by
Aldershot.
This is another
milestone for Vale Royal - winning its first team medal in this massive
event and putting the name Vale Royal on the map.
Vale Royal are
trying to recruit more athletes to the club. Some of our best athletes were
always at the back in training when they first joined the club so all are
welcome.
