More Cross Country Excitement and GB Selection for Charlotte! Vale Royal had 11 athletes running in the UK Cross Challenge and trials for the European Championships at Sefton Park, Liverpool on Saturday. Nicky Archer and Becky Ellis ran in the u23 race with Nicky up front with the leaders for most of the race. Becky finished a couple of minutes behind.
James Griffiths, Tom
Heaword and Chris Perry ran in the u20 men's race.
Sophie Axford ran in the u17 girls race. Lewis Healey and Josh Boyce ran in the u13 race and Lucy Wittick in the u15 girls race.
In the u20 selection
race for the European Championships, Vale Royal had GB international
Stevie Stockton and Charlotte Roach. The girls were up with the
leaders for the first 1000 mtrs then Stevie who is just recovering
from a swollen foot - got detached from the main group. Charlotte
stayed with group and settled into third place with Jess Coulson
(Stockport). Charlotte Purdue (Aldershot) meanwhile made herself a 50
mtr lead unaware of the drama behind her as Roach and Coulson ended up
falling over one another as they rounded a sharp bend. Charlotte
picked herself up and in spite of another fall in the massive field of
one hundred runners finished in an amazing 3rd place.
As a result of her performance
Charlotte has been selected for the GB team and now runs in the European
Championships in Spain on the 9th of December in a team of only 6 athletes to
represent Great Britain.
