Girls Run A Stormer At National Road Relays Championships

Last week weekend the AAA of England Road Relay Championships took place down in the Midlands at Sutton Coldfield where 600 teams of junior athletes participated in the championships in absolutely wet conditions due to heavy rain before and during races.

The outstanding performance of the day was that of the Under 15 girls A team who came in 5th place, just 3 seconds behind 4 place, that team being Shaftbury and Barnet.  The girls A team of Laura Lambert, Vicky Jones and Stevie Stockton beat very good teams such as Sale Harriers, Leeds City, Bedford County as well as Swindon AC.

The Under 15 girls B Team of Laura Timms, Racheal Clews and Hannah Weedall finished in 25th place with some good running indeed and the Under 15 girls C teams came in 34th place.   The girls in the C team were Corrine Kinvig, Louise Bosson and Sophie McCellan.

The Under 17 Ladies team came in an excellent 6th place with Becky Ellis, Gemma Lievesley and Vicky Wall who endured the wet and slippery conditions on the roads to beat clubs such as Trafford, Liverpool, Tipton, Poole and Leeds, which have very strong teams.

The Under 13 girls team were also in action with some super running with the A team coming in 55th position with the team of Kathy Stringer, Katy Howard and Charlotte Hickson.  The B team also enjoyed the course and came in 79th position with the team of Charlotte Matthews, Natasha Brownrigg and Abi Moffatt.

The boys were in action at the event too with the Under 13 Boys team coming in 59th position with the team of Ben Redfern, Chris Jones and Kieran Kinvig who all enjoyed the course and were pleased to see the finish line.

The Under 15 boys team were also in action with a strong team of James Griffiths, Lee Davenport and Mike Carroll who enjoyed the tough course with a position of 59th position.

Coaches at the club were delighted with the turn out of  the athletes, particularly in the boys sections, due to the fact in recent years there have been no boys at the club participating in races.  However, this has now all changed and there are some very strong runners within the boys section at the club now which is excellent news for the club.

Many Thanks To John Carroll Who Supplied The Photos!!!
