Olympic/European Champions Present Prizes At Presentation Evening 2004

Vale Royal Athletic Club
were joined by special guests Ann Packer who was the Olympic Champion (Tokyo
1964) for the 800 metres with a world record time. Ann also gained a
silver medal in the 400 metres where she was just beaten by the Australian
legend of Betty Cuthbert.
The second guest was Robbie
Brightwell who was the 400 metre European champion in Belgrade (1962) as
well a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics (4 x 400 metres). Robbie
came 4th in the 400 metres at Tokyo, just missing out narrowly on the bronze
medal.
Our final guest was Vale
Royal AC Coach Andy Carter who won the Europa Cup in 1973 as well as a
bronze medal in the 1971 European Championships and came 6th in the 800
metre Olympic final in Munich in 1972.
Ann Packer brought along her
Gold medal and silver medal from the 1964 Olympic games which was
fascinating for the young athletes to see.

Way From Oz!!!!
This Young
Lady wil be featured in a Australian Maths Book (throwing a javelin in club
kit) where youngsters have to work out the height of the javelin using
trigonometry.
So a colour
copy of the page has been sent over from Australia and a full colour copy of
the book when published next month, will also be sent over....

The evening was a great
night out with all three guests answering questions from the audience for
well over half an hour and the athletes were amazed to see the medals from
the Olympic Games (1964).

athletes over the last year, which many, many people enjoyed!!!
