A total of 63 athletes from Vale Royal Athletic Club competed at the Cheshire Cross Country Championships organised by the club last weekend on 15th January 2005 at Knights Grange Sports Complex.  Club President Harry Evans was delighted with the success of the course as well as the achievements of all the athletes at the club, with the club which had achieved its best ever titles haul in the ten year history of the club.  The Club won five out of the ten team prizes on offer which is a great start to the year.

The Club would like to thank Shaun McGrath who devoted countless hours of marking out the courses and a great thank you to all the volunteers from the club who assisted in putting up the course, as well as taking it down.

The club has many athletes in each age group which started with Becky Holmes, Jade Evans, Elinor O`Brien, Isla McClellan, Kathryn Muir and Ellen Copesy who all enjoyed the mild weather but muddy conditions around the fields.

Andrew Miles had a good run for the under 11 boys crossing the line with a cheeky smile as always on his face.

The Under 13 girls were out in force with Sophie Axford coming home first for the club in her very first Cheshire Championships, followed by Danielle Jones and Kathy Stringer who had a sprint finish between the two team mates to the line.  Chloe Bithell also crossed the line in her very first cross country championships in a good position for the club, Chloe was followed by Nikki Meadows, Anne Saunders and Lizzie Thomas who also made their debuts in cross country.  Well done to all the girls who ventured round the course in muddy conditions.

The under 13 boys of Vale Royal Athletic Club who competed in the championships were Andrew Clews and Joe Gibney who both enjoyed the championships and look forward to more races over the coming weeks.

The Under 15 girls team of Hannah Weedall who gained an individual silver medal followed by Corrine Kinvig, Leanne Jones, Louise Bosson, Kate Howard, Charlotte Matthews, Emily Deaman, Eleanor Owen and Natasha Brownrigg all represented the club with a strong team which gained Silver Medal Team Prize.

The Under 15 boys team were also in action with some good running from the boys to gain silver medal team prize for the club.  Ryan Smith came home in 3rd place to gain a bronze medal individually followed by Tom Haywood, Lee Davenport, Chris Perry and James Norrey with some very good performances by the boys for the club.

The Under 17 ladies athletes from VRAC won all three team prizes - Gold, Silver and Bronze which is a stunning achievement for the club and athletes.  The girls took the top six placings in the race with Stevie Stockton in first place, Laura Lambert in Second place, Rachel Clews in third place, followed by Lorna Timms, Emma Coxon, Hannah Rugen, Lucy Knight, Gemma Lievesley and Sophie McClellan.

The under 17 boys were also in good shape winning the gold team prize with Glenn George coming home in first place to win gold individually followed by Steven Mitchell and James Griffiths to complete the team for gold.  Micheal Carroll and Josh Lowe also had good runs to complete a good line for the under 17 boys for the club.

The Under 20 Ladies team also won the gold team prize with Becky Ellis who gained a silver medal individually followed by Nicky Archer who gained a bronze medal individually, followed by Kate Spilsbury in fourth place to win the gold team prize.  Well done to the ladies who all enjoyed the course, in particular Nicky who decided to run the course without spikes, as one spike came off, so she decided to discard the other too!!!!

The ladies team also won the Gold team prize with Olivia Renshawe coming in 1st place to win on home turf, followed by Karen Ellison in Bronze medal position and Helen Fowles in 15th place to secure that gold medal team prize in the borough of Vale Royal.

The mens team were also on form with Tom Carter (GB International) in silver medal position followed by Andy Ellis (England International) in bronze medal position, followed by Simon Ruscoe in fourth medal position to claim the gold medal team prize with pride along with John Telford, Graham Miles and George Thompson who ran excellently to make up the team of six to win.  Segery Ryabev, Andy Ault, Nick Haywood, James Edwards, Tony Archer and Colin Rathbone all enjoyed runs around the home turf run.
