Tom Carter Runs At Kelly Holmes

Tom Carter from Vale Royal AC ran at the Sheffield Grand Prix Athletics Meeting televised Live on BBC 2 to compete in the mens mile won by Micheal East.  Tom really enjoyed the meeting and ran a second faster than he did at Crystal Palace two weeks, which was also televised on BBC television.

The meeting was also significant in the fact that it was Kelly Holmes last track meeting in the UK before retiring at the Commonwealth Games in 2006.  The Double Olympic Champion arrived by a convoy of four army helicopters and a pyrotechnics display to the delight of the crowd.

Highlights of the meeting included the disqualification of former World and Olympic Champion Maurice Greene in the mens 100 metres won by Kim Collins, followed by an exciting womens 200 metres race won by Felix (World Champions) followed closely by Williams, also from the United States who is the current 100 metre World Champion.

Gatlin (USA) the mens 100 metre and 200 metre World Champion and Olympic Champion won the 200 metres to the delight of the crowd where he lapped up the applause from the British fans.  Finally the womens double 5000 metre and 10, 000 champion Dibaba was in superb form to win the 5000 metres to the enthusiastic applause of the crowd, who were very appreciate of this very young athlete, who is still only 19 years of age.

Athletes and Coaches from Vale Royal AC were there in the crowd, having made their own way individually to the competition.
