Sharon Returns From
Deaf Olympics 2005

Sharon
Templeman, a member of Vale Royal Athletic Club has just returned from the
20th Deaf Olympics in Melbourne, Australia with a bronze medal in the Ladies
Doubles Tennis Competition. There were 94 countries who competed at
the games which lasted two weeks with 4000 competitors in 18 different
sports.
The
games follow exactly the same rules at the International Olympic Committee,
apart from the hearing test to confirm the person is deaf. At the
games four people were thrown out as it was proved that they were not
deaf!!!! by hearing tests.
Sharon
(without head band) was delighted with her second Deaf Olympics medal, as
she gained a another bronze medal in the Deaf Olympics in Rome four years
ago. Sharon is now setting her sights on a third medal at the next
games in 2009 in China. Sharon has played all over Europe for the
Great Britain team and regularly trains at La Manga In Spain with the team.
Sharon
is a firm believer in fitness and uses the training sessions at the club to
enhance her fitness which in turn help her to maintain good racket skills
during tennis training and matches. Sharon said without her fitness
she would not be able to play on hard surfaces such as clay which are very
testing on the body.
