Nine
Vale Royal Athletes Selected For English Schools
Athletes from Vale Royal
Athletic Club have been selected by the Cheshire Schools Athletics
Association to appear at the English Schools Finals (Mini Olympics) in
Gateshead on 9/10th July.
The athletes from VRAC will
represent the Cheshire Schools in Red and Black kit at the famous stadium
where many internationals have graced the track.
The nine athletes who have
been selected are Lee Davenport (800 metres) along with Laura Lambert (800 metres)
and James Griffiths (800 metres)
and Hannah Hewitson (long Jump) who are all extremely excited at being
selected. Tom Stringer (400m Hurdles)
has been selected along side training partner Virginia Moorhouse (80 m
Hurdles) who will make the long journey up to the North East Coast.
The sprinters are also
making the trip to the international with Morgan Brown who will be
contesting the longer of the sprints events (200m), again with her training
partner, Hayley Jones (100m).
Finally, the nineth
athlete from Vale Royal Athletic Club will be Becky Ellis who will contest
the middle distance event this year. (1500m)
Club president Harry Evans
was delighted with the news and paid tribute to the athletes, as there has
been athletes from different disciplines selected for the English Schools
finals, in the fact that hurdlers, sprinters, middle distance and a jumper
has qualified. Last year 7 athletes qualified for the schools and
there were some athletes who had just missed out this year, so the future is
looking good.
Many world class athletes
such as Jonathan Edwards, Denise Lewis, Colin Jackson, Katherine Merry,
Sally Gunnell and many other names all participated in the English schools
finals where they were younger.
